Sterling Parent Weekly Bulletin

5/7/2020
Good afternoon Sterling Parents and Staff,

Hopefully everyone is enjoying the beginning of this extended weekend, as we take tomorrow to give everyone a break from what has become our everyday norm to celebrate Educator Appreciation Week together. Thank you for taking this week to celebrate everyone who works together to support our Sterling students and families. I have had the opportunity to see a few of the great posts, pictures, and other communication sent to teachers, and I know that they very much appreciate the support of our Sterling family. Thank you!

Don't forget to continue to look for and maintain open communication with your child's teacher. The building is open for packets daily from 8:00 a.m. - 8:00 p.m. for those who need to pickup or drop off work. The need to do so will vary by week depending on the student and teacher, so please be sure and keep that communication ongoing.

To all of our mothers out there, both on staff and within our Sterling family, I wish you all a happy Mother's Day! While it may not be the same as a typical Mother's Day for many, I hope you are still able to take time to relax and feel as appreciated as you deserve.

Attached is the updated information regarding Kindergarten Round-Up and fall registration.

If you missed it last week, attached is a yearbook update from Mrs. Thomas.

Enjoy the rest of your Thursday, and have a wonderful extended weekend!

Good Afternoon Sterling Parents and Staff,

I know many of you have been receiving a lot of information lately, so I'll keep this brief. Thank you for continuing to work with your students and our Sterling teachers as we work to support our students and families. We appreciate your continued partnership!

Remember, as was communicated at the very beginning of this process, this is all about effort. Each of us is being impacted by the sudden change in the world around us that remains out of our control, and with that impact are countless different situations that all are handled in different ways. As we work together, don't hesitate to reach out to us for support. We are here to help, and academically, we're looking for the best effort from each student specific to their situation. We know that families are, first and foremost, focused on the safety and well being of each other, and best effort is going to look different for everyone, and we are doing our best to keep that at the forefront of what we do. Our Sterling staff is here to support you even as we are supporting each other in this process, so please don’t hesitate to reach out to us!

For those students turning in or receiving new work from packets, don't forget that those will be updated and ready to go on Tuesday morning of each week, with the building open from 8:00 a.m. - 8:00 p.m. Monday through Friday. Please continue to communicate directly with your child's teacher regarding work specific to their learning.

Thank you again! Have a great weekend. Keep pushing forward, stay patient, have fun, and make the best of every day!

Good Afternoon Sterling Parents and Staff,

Well, it's been a very busy week in Airport Schools, with Sterling Elementary no exception!  As we move forward with the district plan for the remainder of the school year that was rolled out earlier this week, I'm excited to continue working with our teachers, parents, students, and our student family as a whole in supporting our efforts to continue academics for our students. Now, more than ever, it truly does take a village, and I'm grateful to be part of this one during this difficult time.

With the plan being rolled out and the many other pieces of communication, I know the information for many has been overwhelming. Please know that we're doing our best to recognize this while also being sure to carefully and consistently communicate.

There were a few questions that myself and teachers received from parents over the last several days, and taking those into consideration, please read the list of points below:
  • For those students receiving weekly packets or packets being dropped off to teachers for feedback, these will be prepared and placed in bins by teachers and ready for pickup each Tuesday. Please continue to watch for and communicate regularly with your child's teacher, as we are doing our best to support every student and family based on their needs.
  • Bins will be located in the area just inside the main entrance doors Monday - Friday, and the building will be unlocked on those days from 8:00 a.m. - 8:00 p.m. for pickup and dropoff of materials beginning Monday, April 20. While the material will be new and available for students receiving packets on Tuesday, we know some of our parents may not be able to get there on that day, so the bins will be out there every day to serve this purpose. There will be two sets of bins - one set to drop off materials and one set to hand in / return materials; one labeled per teacher.
  • There will be one additional labeled bin for parents to drop off library and other books that they were not able to return before school was closed.
  • Teachers will be communicating Office Hours, where they will be readily available for meetings, emails, etc. While they will hold these office hours daily, teachers are regularly checking email throughout the day and will always do their best to respond quickly to parent and student requests. We're living this new normal right there with all of you! :)
We miss all of you, and continue to look forward to being able to see our building full of the energy our students bring. Thank you for going the extra mile with us until that time comes.
